The Presidential Annual Program for 2022, approved by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was published in the Official Gazette.
The program also included the latest immigration statistics. Accordingly, as of September 2021, the number of foreigners in Turkey was 5.4 million. The number of Syrians under temporary protection is 3 million 710 thousand, the number of those with residence permit is 1 million 220 thousand, and the number of international protection applicants is 3 million 710 thousand. It is 350 thousand.
80% in 10 Cities
Only 52 thousand of the Syrian population under temporary protection living in Turkey live in temporary protection centers. 80% of the Syrian population lives in 10 provinces including Istanbul, Gaziantep, Hatay and Şanlıurfa.
Foreigners with a Residence Permit in Turkey
68 percent of foreigners holding a residence permit in Turkey live in Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya. The number of residence permit holders in these provinces is 632 thousand, 103 thousand and 124 thousand, respectively. Considering the nationalities of the people with a residence permit, the nationalities of Iraq, Syria, Turkic Republics, Iran and Afghanistan are in the foreground.

In the 2022 annual program, “its geographical location and socio-economic development level make it both a transit and destination country for irregular migrants. In this context, the number of irregular migrants apprehended increased from 33 thousand in 2010 to 106 thousand as of September 2020.
