Short History of Gümüşhane

The city established in the region during the Roman and Byzantine periods was called Argyropolis. This domination ended in 1473 with the battle of Otluk beli between Fatih and Uzun Hasan. In 1514, Yavuz Sultan Selim was definitely taken over and joined the Ottoman lands. With the establishing of Republic of Turkey, Gümüşhane became a province.
