Greek Police Shot 16-Year-Old Teenager, People Took To The Streets

The 16-year-old driver, who fled in his car by not following the ‘stop’ warning in Greece, was seriously injured when the police opened fire. After the young man was shot, people took to the streets in many parts of the country. The protesters threw Molotov cocktails and stones at the police, while the police responded with tear gas. Six people were detained in the incidents.

The driver, who fled in the Greek city of Thessaloniki early yesterday morning by not following the “stop” warning, was seriously injured when the police opened fire. The 16-year-old, who was injured in the head, was treated in the intensive care unit.

In the statement made by the Greek Police Service, it was stated that the police followed the young man upon the complaint of the gas station employee who left without paying for the gas he bought. Emphasizing that the young man used a dangerous vehicle to avoid police pursuit and ignored the warnings, the statement said that the police tried to stop the driver by firing 2 shots.

The 16-year-old driver was seriously injured when the police opened fire, and protests were held in many parts of the country. While the activists came together in front of the Ministry of Citizen Protection building, Syntagma Square and Exarchia district in the capital Athens, a protest was held in Thessaloniki in the city center and in front of the hospital where the seriously injured youth was sleeping. In Exarhia, protesters threw Molotov cocktails and stones at the police, who responded with tear gas.
