Greece’s Eastern Mediterranean Plan: They will look for natural gas

Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis announced in a statement to a Greek television channel that they will start seismic surveys to find natural gas and hydrocarbons in the southwestern part of the Peloponnese and Crete Island.

Speaking to the Greek-affiliated ANT1 television channel, Mitsotakis stated that Greece wants to make an opening with Libya and expand its maritime jurisdiction areas.

Commenting on the hydrocarbon exploration plans in the Eastern Mediterranean, Miçotakis said, “We can say that seismic research for natural gas will start immediately. By immediately, I mean the coming days. ExxonMobil in two parcels located in the southwest of the Peloponnese and Crete.”

On the other hand, Prime Minister Mitsotakis stated that Alexandroupoli is of great importance for Greece in terms of strategic, geopolitical and energy, and stated that Greece has given up on selling the Alexandroupoli Port to a foreign investor.
