Tensions between Greece and Türkiye have eased in recent years. A joint energy strategy with Ankara began to be discussed in Athens.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said that both countries will hold elections in May, so the parties should evaluate the decreasing tension.

Dendias said in an interview with the country’s official broadcaster, ERT, that parties should share their potential energy projects after the election.

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias emphasized the importance of not wasting the opportunity for cooperation in the current rapprochement process between Greece and Turkey. The Greek Minister stated that the situation could easily become more volatile again, which could negatively affect the political atmosphere.

Energy Strategy

Both countries stand out as important stops in the transportation of natural gas extracted from the gas fields in the Eastern Mediterranean to Europe.

According to the information in The National Herald, published weekly in the USA, Dendias stated that he was hopeful about the 64th attempt, although he admitted that 63 attempts at dialogue between the two countries had failed so far.
