Cat Rescue Operation Where Destruction Was Interrupted

The controlled demolition of Galeria AVM, in which 89 people lost their lives as a result of the collapse of a block in the earthquake that occurred in Diyarbakır, was stopped after a cat was detected inside. The soldier, who was lowered from the air by helicopter, landed in one of the buildings to save the cat.

As a result of the collapse of a block of Galeria, the first shopping center of the city in Diyarbakır, in the earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaraş, 89 people lost their lives and 20 people survived with injuries. It was decided to demolish the other blocks of Galeria and the shopping center, for which a ‘heavy damage’ report was given by the Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Provincial Directorate. Demolition work began in the morning at Galeria, which was put into service in 1999. Some residents watched their houses collapse in tears.

Demolition work was stopped after a cat was seen inside. AFAD and firefighters started working to save the cat. It was stated that the demolition work will continue after the completion of the salvage works.

The soldier was lowered to the building by helicopter to save the cat stuck in the construction area, which was interrupted for demolition. Crews supported the building with a crane to prevent it from collapsing.
