In Cappadocia, where the record number of visitors for all years was broken in 2022, a new record is expected this year with tourists coming from the Far East, where restrictions began to be lifted after the fight against Kovid-19. According to museum and ruins visitor data, the region, which reached a record number of 4 million 192 thousand 70 visitors last year, is expected to have much more domestic and foreign tourists this year.

Tourists from China and Japan, who started to come to the region individually, are expected to arrive in groups as of the second half of the year. Planning is also being made to increase the bed capacity of the facilities in Cappadocia, where pre-booking demands have started to increase since the first days of the year. In a statement to the AA correspondent, Dinler said that Cappadocia was more popular than expected last year due to the activities of the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency abroad and social media.

Chinese and Japanese tourist expectations

Expressing that they expect the visitor density to continue to increase in 2023, Dinler said, “Cappadocia is a constantly developing region. We know that there are initiatives to increase the bed capacity. We are ready to host more tourists. Cappadocia is the apple of the eye of tourism. We, as regional tourism professionals, are in Turkish tourism. We will continue to contribute to our region in 2019. We hosted approximately 350 thousand Chinese tourists in our region in 2019. It has not yet normalized like Europe, but we believe that the pleasing individual reservations will start to arrive and group tourism will start in the second half of the year.

Tourists from Japan will also make a significant contribution to the region. This will allow facilities in the region to fill up earlier.” Pointing out that Cappadocia is the tourism center with the highest increase in per capita touristic expenditure, according to a research conducted by a credit card company, Dinler said, “The place with the highest expenditure per capita is in Cappadocia. This is Turkey’s rise. The country’s average tourism income.” Nevşehir Tourist Guides Chamber President Özay Onur stated that tourism activity was seen in the region in the first days of the year and said, “Turkey’s century will also be reflected in tourism.”

Pointing out that the wounds of the epidemic process were healed last year, Onur said, “We think that 2023 will peak.

Turkey century will be reflected in tourism

Especially our guests come from the Far East. The Japanese market has been troubled for years and is starting to come. We know that the Chinese market is opening up. It will be very busy in about two months. We believe that Turkish tourism will peak in the 100th year of the Republic.”

Stating that his expectations for the new year are higher than in previous years, Durmaz emphasized that the activity experienced last year is the harbinger of the new season.
