Apple abandons a planned change for iPhone 15 Pro

Claims that Apple will abandon the physical volume control and power buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro and switch to more “cool” solid-state keys have been circulating for a long time. However, one of the first names to voice this claim now points to a different situation.

Experienced analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared on Medium: “My latest research shows that due to technical issues before large-scale production, iPhone 15 Pro models will abandon solid-state keys and prefer traditional physical keys.”

Kuo isn’t the only analyst with this comment. According to the news of 9to5Mac, analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong Tech also suggests that Apple will not give up traditional mechanical keys in Pro models.

Claims that Apple’s iPhone 15 series will switch to solid-state keys on Pro and Pro Max models came to the fore in October last year. Kuo noted at the time that it could switch to a solid-state design similar to the one Apple preferred for the Home button in the iPhone 8 lineup. The possibility of such a change was not mentioned for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models.

In the scenario where solid state keys are preferred instead of mechanical keys, it is planned to provide the keypress feeling with a pair of Taptic Engines. Leaked images also supported this change.

Kuo did not disclose what technical issues Apple could not resolve. However, he stated that he did not expect this plan change to cause a delay in the company’s production schedule. Stating that this change may take place in the coming years, the experienced analyst stated that this expectation for 2023 has disappeared.

Will there be other changes on the iPhone 15 Pro?

This claim, which came to the fore for the iPhone 15 Pro, means that one of the major changes expected in the new iPhones has been abandoned. Switching to the USB-C input instead of Lightning and adding it to Dynamic Island on non-Pro models are among the changes that will appear in the iPhone 15 models.
