With the enactment of the International Labour Act, the Foreigners and International Protection Act was modified. As a result of these modification on the law, intemediary institutions authorized by the Directorate General will be allowed to make application for the residence permit.
Short-term residence permit will be granted for up to 2 years term each time.
In addition, Northern Cypriot citizens and unemployed foreigners living in Turkey but willing to invest within the scope and amount defined by the Council of Ministers, will be given a short-term residence permit for them and their foreign spouse and children for a time period up to 5 years.
The aggregated stay abroad for more than 120 days in the last one year will not be a reason for cancellation of the short-term residence permit. Basis of cancellation in terms of duration abroad for the family and short-term residence permits will be regulated.
Family residence permit will now be granted for up to 3 years each time.
Foreign students coming through public bodies and institutions to Turkey, may be granted a residence permit during their education. 24-hour weekly limit on working undergraduate students has been removed, working hours will be regulated by law.

I want to know if my school can still apply for my residence permit for me. Since my work permit would be renewed yearly, do I still need to renew my residence permit or I can still use only my work permit always without worrying about my residence permit.

Your work permit is your residence permit at the same time so there is no need for additional document for residency.

I have been told conflicting information, which is hard to confirm if it is correct or not. My question concerns foreigner residence application/extensions for Istanbul.
Foreigner will now need to have their name on a lease for the length of intended short term residence. It is no longer sufficient to have a notary letter stating when you reside with a Turkish citizen.
Foreigner will need police report from home country
Foreigner will need medical report about blood
Foreigner will need to show at least a 6 month bank statement showing sufcent funds (USD $500 per moth minimum)
Foreigner must show tourism plans or reason for requiring a short term residence permit
only once will short term residence be permitted for 1 year only maximum.
Can any/all of this be confirmed?

You can apply for residence permit as long as your visa will be valid. But remember that to obtain residence permit you will need to buy or rent an appartmant in Turkey and prove that each of you have at least 500 USD per each month of your stay. I own a property in Turkey and have a short term residence visa, valid for two years from march 2018 – march 2020. I am planning on doing a lot of travelling next year and will be out of Turkey for about a year, although I may come back for a couple of weeks here and there during that time. Will this affect my residence visa and therefore wiil it he cancelled. . I read conflicting things. Some sites say you can only stay out of Turkey for 120 days in any given year,yet yours says there will not be a problem. Which one is correct, has there been a recent change in the law perhaps?

İn the past, there was a regulation about maximum time spent abroad after obtaining residence permit so it would not be cancelled. But recently the law changed, you can stay abroad as long as you wish and it will not affect your residence permit in Turkey.

There is no regulations in Turkish law about maximum stay abroad. As long as your residence permit is valid, you can stay abroad as long as you wish and it would not be cancelled.
