A New Rail System Is Coming To Istanbul

A new rail system is coming to the Anatolian side of Istanbul. A tram line will be brought to the route known as ‘Minibus Street’ in Kadıköy. Minibus drivers react to the decision.

Tram transportation is on the agenda in the section known as ‘Minibus Street’ on the Anatolian side of the line.

The tram service is planned to be made between Kadıköy and Maltepe.

Pelin Alpkökin, Deputy Secretary General of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, announced the project on her social media account. Alpkokin’s statement is as follows:

“We are developing street tram projects in order to restore the important streets of Istanbul to their former beauty. The projects of our Kadıköy-Maltepe Street Tram, which continues along our street, also known as the minibus street of the Anatolian Side, will be ready at the end of the year.

So what do the minibuses say about this situation?

While one of the people doing this job in the region expressed the opinion that his work, which fell with the opening of Marmaray, will decrease even more with the new tram line, another minibus owner made the following statement:

“There are no passengers at the moment. And when the tram arrives, we will have an enormous loss. The traffic is already heavy, they have to cancel a lane in order to make this tram. We will see how it goes.”

One of the residents of the neighborhood said, “It’s great if it saves time, the minibus culture doesn’t suit Istanbul anyway.” When the line opens, I prefer the tram.” He said.

  1. Tram is so much better in every way (pollution, traffic, beauty, comfort) than ugly endless line of traffic jammed minibus.

Strongly support this project and also the Üsküdar- Harem double deck tram idea
