First of all, let us remind you that foreigners cannot apply for a work permit in Turkey on their behalf. Legally, if you intend to employ foreign nationals, you can apply for a work permit either by you as the employer or through the consultancy firm you authorize.

Preconditions

In order to receive a work permit, at least five persons who are citizens of the Republic of Turkey should be employed in your business. If the foreigner requesting a work permit is one of the partners of the company, the above-mentioned condition regarding the employment of five Turkish citizens is required for the last six months of the one-year work permit granted by the Ministry. If a work permit is requested for more than one foreigner in the same workplace, following the first foreigner who has been granted a work permit, the employment condition of five Turkish citizens will be required separately for each foreigner. The paid-in capital of the workplace must be at least 100,000 TL. The lowest figure for the gross sales amount should be 800,000 TL. Otherwise, last year’s export amount should be at least 250,000 USD.

Foreign Company Shareholders

The foreigner who requests a work permit as a company partner must hold at least a 20% share in the company and this ratio must correspond to a minimum of 40,000 TL. On the other hand, if the general manager of the company is a foreign national, that person must also obtain a work permit. According to the new law, the obligation of joint-stock companies to obtain work permits for members of the board of directors who are not residing in the country and other foreign partners of limited companies who are not company officials has been abolished.

Minimum Wages for Foreigners in 2024

The amount of the salary declared by the employer to be paid to the foreigner must be at a level suitable for the foreigner’s position and qualification. Accordingly, the wage to be paid to a foreigner should be at least equal to the following rates, provided that the minimum wage amount is valid at the time of application.

  • 5 times the minimum wage for senior managers, pilots, engineers, and architects seeking pre-authorization
  • 4 times the minimum wage for the department or branch manager, as well as for engineers and architects
  • 3 times the minimum wage for teachers and people who will work in jobs that require expertise and qualification
  • 5 times the minimum wage for other professions
  • Minimum wage level for foreigners who will work in household services

Employing Foreigners in the Tourism Sector

Requests of at least four-star tourism enterprises and certified holiday villages that prove that they have a massage parlor in their facilities that require expertise and mastery, such as masseurs, masseuses and SPA therapists, will be evaluated, and the demands of businesses and workplaces that are not included in this scope will not be eligible.

If at least 10 Turkish citizens are employed for foreigners to be employed in the entertainment sector, tourism animation organization companies that require expertise and mastery, the quota for the employment of five Turkish citizens for each foreigner will not be applied separately.

How Much are Work Permit Fees in 2024?

A work permit fee of 7.345,01 TL and a card fee of 565,00 TL are charged for work permit applications.

Is the Work Permit Accepted as a Residence Permit?

The work permit or work permit exemption granted under the International Labor Law No. 6735 is considered as a residence permit by Article 27 of Law No. 6458. However, work permits issued to International Protection Applicants, Conditional Refugees, and foreigners with Temporary Protection status are not accepted as residence permits.

What are the Prohibited Professions for Foreigners?

According to the law, there are some prohibited professions for foreigners in Turkey. These professions are Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Directorate of Private Hospitals, Lawyer, Notary, Private Security Officer, Customs Consultancy, Tourist Guidance, exporting fish, oysters, mussels, sponges, pearls, corals in territorial waters and diving, hunting, piloting, captain, clerk, crew.

    Kindly guide me as to how can I get unconditional work permit in Turkey being a child of parents who have acquired Turkish citizenship by investment last year.
    As I heard that by Turkish law, unconditional work permit is granted to the children of Turkish citizens. Please.
